A case study is most suitable for in-depth study of a particular case.

Case study:

"Case studies are in-depth investigations of a single person, group, event or community."

Case study in psychology:

  • In psychology, case studies are used to study a particular individual's perspective of his current life events and his past. Such studies are not related to research, but collection of required data and materials are obtained by adopting certain method to perform case study.
  • Some of the widely recognized case studies were performed by Sigmund Freud. He had used case studies to understand his patient's illness by conducting detailed investigations of their life events.
  • Thus case studies aids in a clear knowledge on the patient information and is used to obtain a clear diagnosis to move on to  the necessary treatment.
