The ambit of your question is wide so let me answer this way that, In a country like India which is geographically too large with diversified population it is not possible to have a particular method or pattern to judge the voters behaviour.

Also, you did not specify which elections as the voting behaviour is all different with general elections, state elections and elections to say MCD.

Many factors play important part like the place where elections are taking place, the candidates, political situations and n number of other things.
