During the British Raj, there were many small revolts and rebellions the British Government faced, however none were as long-lasting and consistent as the one they experienced by the Princely State of Bastar in Eastern India, which was composed of the Bastar Tribe an indigenous Indian tribe which had very different customs and traditions from the Delhi Sultanate.
The original problems began as the British fought for control from the Rajputs and the Moghuals were severally disrupted life in the rural areas. Bastar itself, was heavily reliant on farming business and war brought on sever poverty and other problems on the Bastar Tribe.
Other issues were differences in law and customs. The British brought with them English Common Law and in the first time of the sub-continent's history, Forests, Lakes etc were brought under the direct control of the government.
Bastar as a tribe dependent and reliant on forests and a forest lifestyle, were fiercely opposed to this.
Even though British ruled only 3 quarters of the land, the rest were ruled through princely states, which didnt always mean the same rights, and living standards as enjoyed by those in other parts.
However, the biggest and greatest contention between Bastar and the British government was always related to Forest Laws, which the Bastar tribe, believed they had an inherent right to
