There is a 17th-century precedent for Islamic opposition tomusic ("Parents pull Muslim pupils out of music lessons", July 2). The Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb (the son of Shah Jahan, who built the Taj Mahal) is recorded as banning music in 1668.
