It was recommended by the NCF 2000 that environmental studies as an integral course for the entire primary stage of learning, instead of using two different parts i.e. science and social studies for classes III to V.

The NCF 2005 has strengthened the recommendation of this integral approach, has called for the continuation of Environmental Studies in the primary years.
