What must be added to each term of the ratio 7:13 so that the ratio becomes 2:3?

(7+X) : (13+X) = 2 : 3

3*(7+X) = 2*(13+X)

21 + 3x = 26 + 2x

3x - 2x = 26 - 21

x = 5

5 is the Answer

Check:

(7+5) : (13+5) = 2 : 3

12 : 18 = 2 : 3

2 : 3 = 2 : 3

SOLUTION

TO CHOOSE THE CORRECT OPTION

The number must be added to each of the numbers 7 and 13 so that the resultant numbers will be in the ratio of 2 : 3

A) 1

B) 2

C) 3

D) 5

EVALUATION

Let P be the required number

So by the given condition

( 7 + P ) : ( 13 + P ) = 2 : 3

 \displaystyle \sf{ \implies \:  \frac{7 + P}{13 + P}  =  \frac{2}{3} }

 \displaystyle \sf{ \implies \:  21 + 3P = 26 + 2P}

 \displaystyle \sf{ \implies \: P = 5}

Hence the required number = 5

FINAL ANSWER

Hence the correct option is D) 5
