We can find this by placing the values at x

p(x) = √2

(√2)^3 - 3√2 - 1

√8 - 3√2 - 1

2√2 - 3√2 - 1

-√2 - 1

p(x) = 2

2^3 - 3(2) - 1

8 - 6 - 1

8 - 7
