Chlorophyll

Plants produce/manufacture their own food hence they are called factories from carbon dioxide and water in the presence of sunlight and chlorophyll, a green pigment which absorbs light energy. So it's the abundance of chlorophyll available in leaves that makes them food factories.

Leaves are called food factories of a plant because they make food for the whole plant using oxygen , carbon dioxide, water and sunlight through a process called photosynthesis .
