Propyl-1,3-dibromide treated with sodium in dry ether it gives cyclopropane.

Reaction:

  • When 1,3-dibromopropane reacts with Na metal in presence of dry ether then we will get cyclopropane as a major product.
  • Along with that sodium bromide will be formed as a by- product.
  • Thus, the reaction thus produces an Alicyclic three membered ring that is cyclopropane in presence of sodium and dry ether, this reaction is called as Wurtz coupling reaction.
