Given : Equations

To Find :  which of the following equations has graph parallel to y-axis?

(a) y= -2

(b) x=1

(c) x-y=2

(d) x+y =2

Solution:

Line parallel to x axis has 0 slope.

Line parallels to y axis has slope 1/0

Any Equation parallel to y axis will be independent of variable y

Hence  x =  c    represent  an Equation of line parallel to y axis

c is a real number

if c = 0

then x = 0 is the equation of y axis

for all other values of c   line is parallel to y axis

In the given options

x = 1  is  parallel to y axis

y= -2  is parallel to x axis

x - y = 2  and x + y = 2 are not parallel to any axis
