Properties Of Sodium Hydroxide !!

✔ Sodium Hydroxide is a white crystalline, deliquescent solid.

✔It is readily soluble in water to give alkaline solution. It also Neutralises acids forming Salt and water.

NaOH + HCl ─────> NaCl +H2O.

2NaOH+H2SO4 ──>Na2SO4 +2H2O.

✔The Crystal of Sodium Hydroxide are deliquescent. i.e., they absorb moisture from air. On prolong exposure, Sodium Hydroxide absorbs CO2 resulting in the formation of white crust of the solid hydrated Na2CO3 at the surface.

2NaOH+CO2─────>Na2CO3+H2O.

✔Its aqueous solution is soapy to touch and has a strong corrosive action on the skin.
