The operation that would make the equation x²-8√3x a perfect square is
(a) add (4√3)²
• We know that expansion of (a-b)²
= a² - 2ab + b² ......(i)
• We can write x²-8√3x as x²-2*x*4√3
......(ii)
• By comparing (i) and (ii),
we can conclude that,
b = 4√3 and by adding (4√3)² to
x²-8√3x it will become a perfect
square, that is ( x - 4√3)².
