which of the following oxide is not expected to react with sodium hydroxide ?
1. BeO
2. B2O3
3. CaO
4. SiO2

plz explain why???

Attachments:

rakeshmohata: CaO will not react with sodium hydroxide.
rakeshmohata: This is because, NaOH is a base and it can only react with either an acidic oxide or an amphoteric oxide. BeO is an amphoteric oxide while B2O3 and SiO2 are acidic oxides. Thus, all of them will react with basic NaOH to form salts.
GarimaNewly: oh i got it thanks alot ..

Cao is basic oxide and NaoH is a strong alkali so it never react with a basic oxide .NaoH only reacts with acidic oxide or an amphoteric oxide

CaO will not react with sodium hydroxide.

Reason: Acid react with base and bases (Alkalies) react with acids. Sodium hydroxide, NaOH being strong alkali, never react with a basic oxide. In above options B2O3 and BeO are amphoteric in nature and SiO2 is acidic in nature. Hence CaO will not react with Sodium Hydroxide.
