The House would be based on population.

The Senate would have equal representation from each state.

The above two provisions were part of Great Compromise of 1787.

While discussing legislative structure, the large states wanted representation based on population while the small states wanted equal representation. So the Great Compromise between the two provided something to both of them.It provided for representation based on population in the House and equal representation in the Senate.

The Senate would have equal representation from each state.

The House would have equal representation from each state.

These two provisions were part of the Great Compromise.

According to the compromise, the Senate has equal representation for all states, with which the smaller states are made happy.

The House of Representatives represents each state based on its population, with this provision the larger states are made happy.

This is a successful structure that is being under use for over 2 centuries now.
