All the arteries carry pure or oxygenated blood from the heart to the different parts of the body. There is one exception in the arteries which is the pulmonary artery that carries deoxygenated blood from the right ventricle to the lungs. The purification is carried out and then the blood is carried by the pulmonary vein to the heart. The blood in the arteries flows at high pressure in order to supply the oxygen to the different organs. The arteries have thick walls which are elastic in order to withstand the pressure of blood flowing through it.
