(1+2\sqrt{2})^2=1+4\sqrt{2}+8=9+4\sqrt{2}

(1+2\sqrt{2} )(1-2\sqrt{2} )=1-(2\sqrt{2} )^2=-7

One contains square root of 2. Since it is irrational, option 1 gives irrational number.

But -7 is a rational number. So option 2 will give us a rational number.
