Answer: Option (4)

Explanation:

Annual ring -

  • Annual rings are formed due to in equal activity of vascular cambium. In winter or autumn season, the activity of the cambium is less and cuts off small sized xylem elements (vessels) which constitute late wood or autumn wood.
  • The vascular cambium is highly active in spring or summer and secondary xylem is formed.
  • Wherein  cells are large with wide lumen. The wood is known as spring wood or early wood. Spring wood is lighter in colour and less dense whereas autumn wood is darker and highly dense.
  • Annual rings are most prominent in trees of temperate region.
  • Annual rings refer to an annual formation of wood in plants, consisting of two concentric layers, one of spring wood and others of autumn wood.
  • These layers are formed due to differential activity of cambium caused by variation in climate.

Note:

  • These rings are most prominent in trees of temperate regions as these have distinct growing periods and periods when there is no to little growth.

Annual rings are not prominent in trees of temperate region.

Step by step explanation:

  • The amount of wood formed by the growth of a woody plant in a single year called annual rings.
  • Growth rings are created by cambium seasonal activity.
  • In temperate region plants, change is more active in the spring and less active in the autumn seasons.
  • Climatic conditions in temperate regions are not constant throughout the year.
  • Throughout the year, the tropic Climate conditions are constant in temperature regions.
