Greece is the southernmost country of the Balkan Peninsula. It is hence referred to as the main Greek peninsula. However, it also forms a part of the Peloponnese peninsula. It also has an archipelago with almost 3000 islands.

Earlier the mainland of Greece was being divided into two separate peninsulas. One of them was called the Attica( Northern peninsula) while the other one was called the Peloponnese( Southern Peninsula).
