• Litmus is a purple colour dye when dipped in acidic medium it turns red , when dipped in basic medium it turns blue.

• Turmeric is yellow in colour it remains natural in acidic medium but when dipped in basic medium it turns reddish or deep brown.

• Indicators that gives different odours in acidic and basic medium are called olfactory indicators.

i) Vanilla essence - it has a sweet smell which remains natural in acid but its smell destroyed in basic.

ii) Onion- It has ammoniacal smell which remains natural in acid but destroyed in basic medium.
