1 - rheostat ...... coz all the other 4 instruments are used for measuring ....but rheostat is used to control the resistance in a closed circuit

Rheostat does the same work as of a regulator in an electric fan. Rheostats are used to divide the amount of voltage by adjusting the resistance in an electrical circuit. It works in the principle of Ohm's Law which explains that current is inversely proportional to the resistance of the given voltage. It means that current will disappear when resistance increases.
The regulator of fans works on the same principle. Capacitor resistors are used in fans regulators to adjust the voltage across the motor of the fan. When capacitance increases, the voltage across the motor decreases and hence the fan speed increases. In simple words, The speed of the fan increases by increasing the capacitance.
