correct set up for studying the dependence of the current on the potential difference across a resistor would be

a  Variac with Display

b  Resistance

c Ammmeter

Ammeter will be connected in series to resistance to read current through Resistance

Variac will be connected in Parallel to (ammeter & resistance)

We will change voltage supply with Variac and note the difference in current through resistance via ammeter

Voltage      Resistance       Current

10 V           1 Ω                     10 A

9 V             1 Ω                     9 A

8 V             1 Ω                     8 A

7 V             1 Ω                     7 A

We can see that Current changes directly proportional to voltage

I ∝ V
