(D) Coefficient of localization

  • The coefficient of localization indicates  propensity of the concentration of the industries. This does not have relation as such with  area. If  percentage of the workers over the different areas is  given in the percentage,  variance between  two percentages is divided by 100 which give  coefficient of the location.

  • In case this coefficient is 0,  then it will mean industries are evenly distributed over all  areas, if  coefficient is unity / one, it indicates concentration of the industries in the one area. Coefficient being greater / less than the unity will indicate tendency of the  centralization or the decentralization respectively.

  • Suppose  percentage of the workers in  area is 90 & those engaged in particular industry 60. Then the coefficient will be found in this manner.

  • Since coefficient of localization is less than the unity / one, industries have the tendency of the decentralization in that area.

Therefore, the answer is Option (D) Coefficient of localisation.
