During the Kakatiya dynasty Warangal ,(the old name was Orugallu) was the capital city from the 12th to the 14th centuries . It was also known as Orugallu, Ekasila Nagaram, or Omatikonda during this period . When the Kakatiyans was defeated by Juna Khan the Delhi Sultanate in 1323 it was renamed as Sultanpur. Later it was recaptured by Musunuri Nayaks in 1336 A. D. and renamed it Orugallu .
