It is absent in some human cells like RBC so that RBC can supply oxygen o various parts of the body. If mitochondria would have been present in human RBCs then the oxygen that RBCs carry would be utilized by MItochondria and thus, mitochondria won't be able to carry oxygen to various parts of our body.
