The iris controls the entry of the light .


It contains muscles called ciliary muscles.

These muscles contract and relax to adjust the closure of the pupil or opening of the pupil.


When the pupil dilates , it is called pupil dilation and occurs during darkness also called dark adaptation.


When the pupil constricts , it is called pupil constriction and occurs during bright light .This is called light adaptation.
