The seed leaf which is available in the form of leaf-like pair which opens upon the sprouting and hence seems to push out from the ground is helpful in storing food.
This part in quite helpful in storing the food for the baby plant and the plant lives on it until it get first set of real leaves to perform the photosynthesis process.

Hi there,
Inside the seed there are is an embryo (thebaby plant) and cotyledons. When the seedbegins to grow, one part of the embryo becomes the plant while the other partbecomes the root of the plant. Food for the plant is stored in the cotyledons. Someseeds when split apart seperate into two halves.
THANKS
