Rafi Ahmed Kidwai was a  Muslim Indian socialist and a politician.

He was a close friend of Moti Lal Nehru and entered the freedom movement through the Khilafat movement.

When India attained Independence, the first cabinet was formed on 15th August 1947 and he was one of the fifteen cabinet ministers of the First Nehru's Ministry.

He was given the portfolio of communication and was India's first Minister for Communications.
