In the novel Hard Times by Charles Dickens it is describing about a imaginary industrial town named Coketown.

It is a grim place full of machines,factories smoking chimneys and rivers polluted purple.

Here the workers are known as Hands...They don't have any  identity rather than Machine operators...

In this novel Charles Dickens is not only criticizing the greed of human for profit but also the ideals that human beings are reduced into a simple instruments of production...
