The process of absorption means that a substance captures and transformsenergy. The absorbent distributes the material it captures throughout whole and adsorbent only distributes it through the surface. The process of gas or liquid which penetrate into the body of adsorbent is commonly known as absorption

\bold{O^{+} \rightarrow 0^{-}} process does not involve absorption of energy.

Explanation:

  • In case of oxygen, the electronic configuration of oxygen is just slightly more than half filled p-orbital. And if oxygen loses the electron then the oxygen ion will become half filled.
  • As a result the p orbital will be half filled. It is said that half-filled valence shell is highly active.
  • So to reduce or loss of the electron the energy will be released but in case of all the other such orbitals the electron are lost and as a result the energy is absorbed.
