Meiosis is the process which leads to genetic variation in offspring.

Explanation:

Meiosis is the process which causes genetic variation in offspring.

  • Mitosis and Meiosis are the cell divisions taking place which carry on the genetic  materials.
  • Meiosis is a type of cell division where the genetic material undergoes recombination creating genetic variation. Meiosis happens in two phases Meiosis I and Meiosis II, they undergo 2 phases of Prophase, Metaphase, Anaphase and Telophase.
  • Whereas in Mitosis the genetic material is merely copied as it is, no recombination takes place.
  • The haploid male and female gametes fuse during fertilization and undergo meiosis. This results is genetic material from both parents to be recombined into one cell. Hence the offspring have varied genetic variations.
