answer:

salt is soluble in water whereas sand isn't. if we let the solution settle, the sand will settle and we can filter it out using filter paper and funnel. then we'll be left with a salt solution. then, we can evaporate the water in a container and collect the salt and let the water vapour condense into droplets so that we don't lose water too.
