On 1 April 2000, the Government of India restructured the Comprehensive Rural Sanitation Programme and launched the Total Sanitation Campaign (TSC) which was later renamed Swachh bharat abhiyan

In the year 2000, Total Sanitation Campaign was launched by the Indian Government. This scheme was reintroduced as NIrmal Bharat Abhiyaan, in 2012 by Dr. Manmohan Singh, the then Prime minister of India.
However due to issues of faulty approach, the program did not perform as expected.
However in 2014 the programmed was re-launched as Swachh Bharat Abhiyan otherwise known as the Swachh Bharat Mission.
