diffraction....

Diffraction is that phenomena of a light, when light passes through the edges of an obstacles it bends...

Or simply Bending of light towards the shadow area is Diffraction....

Diffraction occurs due to wave nature of light rather than particle nature...means This phenomena of light can be only explained by considering the wave nature of light...As light travels in a wave not in a straight line....

this is because of the property of light that it travels in a straight line and do not pass through opaque substances.
