If a bar magnet is cut into two pieces from its center, the magnetic moments are still aligned as they originally were and we get two pieces of bar magnets. As we know that one end of the magnet acts as a north pole and the other end acts as a south pole. So, when we gently cut the magnet in half, the newly cut faces will become the new north and south poles. If we keep on cutting the magnet into more smaller pieces, we keep getting thinner magnets each with a new set of poles. Hence, every piece of magnet still exhibits the properties of standard dipole magnet.
