The lustrous or shiny appearance of silk fiber is due t the presence of Fibrin protein.

Silk is produce by silk worm. It mainly consists of 2 types of protein.

- Fibrin

- Sericin

Fibrin accounts for 70-80% where sericin accounts for 20-30% of silk fiber. Fibrin holds for the structural center of silk whereas sericin acts as gum coating and holds the fibers together.
