There are many rivers in India. River is the most important factor for the civilisation. The river with few tributaries is Damodar which flows between West Bengal and Jharkhand. Since the flood of this river largely affects the Bengal region. It is also known as Sorrow of Bengal. Though this river has many sub tributaries the two major tributaries of Damodar is Barakar and Konar. This river is rich in minerals so many coal industries have originated in Damodar basin. These industries contaminated the river with oil, metals and other environmental hazardous materials.
