Around the month of June, the North Pole gets tilted towards the sun, so it gets a number of direct sun-rays, and that is the reason why the months June, July, and August are summer months in the Northern Hemisphere.

So when the earth's northern hemisphere is turned away from the sun, southern hemisphere will get the summer season as the northern hemisphere will experience the winter season at that time.
