Amongst the various sections of the society, children are most vulnerable to advertising since they lack the knowledge and to understand and appraise the purpose of the advertisements.

EXPLANATION:

  • According to research, average children are exposed to over 40,000 TV ads per year. And new media innovations are reaching children. Advertising can influence the interest and actions of a child for a brand. Ads for children, especially for children under 8, have been noted for the increasing tension between parents and children if children are not provided with what they feel they want or need.
  • Some ads include very dangerous stunts. Even if they have a statutory warning, these stunts often can be overlooked, and children can try to imitate. Some advertisements are known to use comparative graphics that ultimately make fun of an individual using another product. This can instil in children the idea of lower and higher as they start comparing with others.
  • The visual representation of some improper actions in advertising such as lying or cheating can lead a vulnerable child to believe that behaviour. Another problem with advertising which portrays unrealistic things or events and children tend to fall for it is fake imagery. In children, advertising can also develop a materialistic conception of the world.
  • If your innocent minds are regularly exposed to contents which show that the best is needed for a comfortable life, children will give material wealth unfair importance. It is possible to develop the brand awareness and the affinity to costly branded products. This can make them avoid cheap things for the same reason. Much of the food sold is junk food and is very attractive. These can affect the child's eating habits and promote unhealthy lifestyles. Since many ads succeeded in blurring the line between true and rolling life, children tend to believe the facade and get lost in the truth.
