Maharashtra has the maximum number of UNESCO world Heritage sites in India. There are a total of 36 world Heritage sites in India out of which 5 are in Maharashtra State. These heritage sites are Ajanta caves, Ellora caves, Elephanta caves, Chatrapati Shivaji and Victoria terminus along with Western Ghats. It is followed by Tamil nadu state with 3 world Heritage sites.
