which statement is incorrect regarding lactose ?
- it is composed of β (D+) Galactose & β D(+) Glucose
- it is reducing sugar
- it is a disaccharide having eight OH groups
- it has α glycosidic linkage of C₁ of glucose and C₄ of galactose.
solution : lactose is disaccharide derived from condensation of β (D+) galactose and β (D+) glucose which has eight OH groups . it forms β glycosides linkage of C₁ of glucose and C₄ of galactose.
all the simple sugars ( monosaccharides) like galactose , glucose , fructose are reducing sugers. so fusion of galactose and glucose gives lactose, is a reading sugar.
in above explanation of lactose, we get “it has α glycosidic linkage of C₁ of glucose and C₄ of galactose.” is incorrect statement.
Therefore option (4) is correct choice.
