These are two different poems written by two different poets. In we wear the masks poet is expressing his feelings about the inner of a man how a man gets hurt and hides his torn heart with the help of a single smile. This smile is actually a mask a man is wearing to hide his sorrows. On the other hand a man said to the universe plots a theme of a man talking to the universe about his existence that he exists but universe replies as this thing does not matter much. In both the poems it is portrayed that a man can be helpless in front of the external forces.

The theme is about hiding the inner self from the world. We ought to hide the feelings when we get hurt or are depressed. We tend to smile in front o the world but inside our heart bleeds. So a smiling face is a mask for the world. Cause the world do not care about the feelings and not even for our existence as mentioned in other poem.
