Gandhiji loved reading books that would help him build a strong character. So his favourite books were the ‘Bhagavad Gita’, and Leo Tolstoy’s ‘The Kingdom of God is within You’.

EXPLANATION:

In his autobiography ‘My Experiments with Truth’ Gandhiji mentions that he was interested right from his childhood in all those books and plays that taught him the ethics and morality of human beings. Since the Hindu doctrine ‘Bhagavad Gita’ teaches us the truth and the duties of life and Hindu philosophy, Gandhiji was greatly inspired by it.

Leo Tolstoy was Gandhiji’s mentor. So his book ‘The Kingdom of God is within You’ was a source of motivation for Gandhiji. Both these books greatly influenced Gandhiji in his childhood.
