Answer:
Khilafat movement and Rowlatt act was the two causes which led to political unity of India under British rule.
Khilafat movement:
- The Khilafat movement (1919-19 22) was a political-religious movement mainly run by Muslims in India.
- The objective of this movement (Sunni) was to pressurize the British to re-establish the post of Turkish caliph, which was considered the head of Islam.
- It ended automatically after the termination of Mustafa Kamal's caliph in 1924.
Rowlatt Act:
- The Rowlatt Act was a law made in March 1919 with the aim of crushing the national movement emerging in India by the British Government of India.
- This law was made on the basis of the recommendations of the Selection Committee headed by Sir Sydney Rowlett.
- Accordingly, the British government had received this right that it could stop any Indian in the court without being prosecuted.
- Under this law, the right to know the name of the accused who filed a lawsuit against him was also abolished.
