In the absence of excerpt, the event described in Iliad is as follows.
Eumaeus is the swineherd and Philoetius, the cowherd of Ulysses. Ulysses does not reveal his identity for a long time after his return from the Trojan war. But as he observes Eumaeus and Philoetius, he finds that they are good natured and takes care of their master, mistress, son and visitors very well. So, he decides to reveal to them his true identity, by showing the scar on his foot.
