Both events (microsporogenesis and megasporogenesis) involve the process of meiosis or reduction division which results in the formation of haploid gametes from the microspore and megaspore mother cells.

This is the formation of microspores in sporogenous tissue (microspore mother cell) due to meiosis. This is the formation of megaspores in megaspore mother cell due to meiosis. Leads to formation of female gametophyte (embryo sac).
