Following were some demonstrations which were organized to oppose Rowlatt Act:
- Nationwide support and success was the reason for the launch of Satyagraha movement in 1919 against Rowlatt Act which was passed hurriedly and gave the government enormous powers to repress political activities and allowed detention of political prisoners without trial for two years
- This movement started with a hartal on April 6th and progressed rapidly with rallies, strike in railway workshops, closure of shops etc.
- British were scared that the lines of communication would be disrupted and they decided to clamp down on nationalists.
- Local leaders were picked up from Amritsar and Mahatma Gandhi was barred from entering Delhi.
All the demonstrations were type of non-violent demonstrations as Gandhiji believed in Satyagrah!
Hope this solves your doubt!
