The movement is called peristalsis and it begin from the oesophagus.

Peristalsis is movement of longitudinal and circular muscles. It occurs primarily in digestive tract but occasionally in other hollow tubes of the body, that occur in progressive wavelike contractions. peristaltic waves occurs in the esophagus, stomach and intestine.
