Types of Metallurgical Processes

1 Pyrometallurgy Extraction of metals takes place at very high temperature. Cu, Fe, Zn, Sn, etc .. are extracted by this method.
2 Bydrometallurgical process In this method, metals are extracted by the use of their aqueous solution. Ag and Au are extracted by this method.
3 Electrometallurgical process Na, K, Li, Ca, etc., are extracted from their molten salt solution through electrolytic method.

The crust of the earth contains the most metals. Seawater contains salts that are soluble in metals. There are many different kinds of metals in nature, some of which are free, but most of which are mixed.

  • Ores are rocks out of which metals can be economically and conveniently mined. All minerals are ores, but not all ores are minerals.
  • For instance, clay and bauxite are both minerals that contain aluminium. Clay is not employed in the extraction of aluminium; rather, bauxite is.
  • Bauxite is an ore of aluminium as a result. Ores are divided into various categories.
  • Native ores are the type of ores containing metals like gold, silver, mercury, platinum, copper, and other elements in their pure form.
  • These are frequently discovered with rock or alluvial sediments like clay, sand, and so on. Sometimes bits of pure metal is found. They are referred to as nuggets.
  • Ores that have been oxidised contain metals in the form of oxides or oxysalts, including carbonates, sulphates,  nitrates, silicates, phosphates, and others.
  • Halide ores are the ores which appear that metallic halides are incredibly uncommon in nature. Chlorides are the most prevalent.
