Huge sized Basalt rocks are found mostly in the eastern part of Maharashtra called as Vidarbha region. Basalt rock is a type of Igneous rock that is formed by the cooling of volcanic lava consisting of iron and magnesium.
In most parts of Konkan region, sedimentary rocks called Laterite are mostly found.
Central Maharashtra comprising of the Deccan plateau has both Basalt and Laterite rocks.
