THE fundamental difference between statesand union territory is states are the administrative units having their own governments. whereas UTs are ruled directly by the central government through Lieutenant Governor as the administrator. this is the difference between state & union trritory

Except for Assam and Meghalaya, all the eastern states are considered as union territories.

In 1950 people of Nagaland started a movement against the government asking for a special state.

The government had not agreed for that first but then later the government bowed down to people's wish.

After 1950 the Nagaland was declared as a special state.

Unlike this situation, the government has prohibited this situation in Jammu and Kashmir.
